Welcome piano players! Has your child been playing piano for a bit wanting to quit but they are good? Or if they have taken piano for a while, love it and want to show off those skills? Or anything in between? This camp is for them! This is an opportunity to bring those skills together to put on a show! We are excited to announce the host of this camp is none other than Des Moines’ founder of the top dueling piano act, Tony Bohnenkamp. Have you heard of Pianopalooza Dueling Pianos? That’s him! He is also a former member of the band the Nadas! This camp is for the intermediate and above piano player who wants to translate those skills to a funny show. Students will work to study a catalogue of popular songs throughout the eras. They will navigate playing on the spot, reviewing chord structures ,bringing humor and improv together as they create a dueling piano show. The final performance will be the last day of this camp, Friday at XBX! Students will also get to work with Tony’s own dueling piano set up! This camp is for the intermediate player who understands chords, key signatures, and scales. Must be a proficient piano player. We aren’t looking for Mozart but must have some knowledge of piano. It is also helpful to have some singing talent, but not necessary. Students are encouraged to bring their own keyboard to camp.
